Troubleshooting

License Activation Fails

Common causes and solutions when license activation does not complete.

Symptoms

  • "Activation failed" error after entering your license key.
  • The activation page shows a connection error or timeout.
  • License status shows "Unlicensed" even after entering a valid key.

Causes

  1. No outbound HTTPS access — The Splunk server cannot reach the license server.
  2. Invalid or expired key — The key has already been used or has expired.
  3. Proxy configuration — Outbound requests are blocked by a corporate proxy.

Solution

1. Verify Network Connectivity

From the Splunk server, test connectivity:

curl -s https://patronus-license.fly.dev/api/v1/health

You should receive a JSON response. If the command times out, check firewall rules and proxy settings.

2. Check Proxy Configuration

If your Splunk server uses a proxy for outbound HTTPS, ensure the HTTPS_PROXY environment variable is set in your Splunk environment, or configure the proxy in server.conf.

3. Verify Your License Key

Ensure the key is entered exactly as provided, in PTRON-XXXXX-XXXXX-... format with no extra spaces or line breaks. Keys are case-sensitive.

4. Contact Support

If the key is valid and connectivity is confirmed, contact support@corporatemutt.com with your license key ID (visible in the error message) for assistance.

5. Offline Activation

For air-gapped environments, contact support to receive an offline activation token that can be applied without internet access.
